This is a quilt I made for my friend Julie from work, who was having a baby. I saw the pattern "Puss in Bonnets" in Janet Kime's book "The Cats Meow", which I bought whilst in America in 1999, and decided that I "had" to do this quilt for someone!
It has been altered a little from the original pattern, I've used plain sashing strips rather than pieced ones, and as we didn't know whether Julie's baby was going to be a boy or a girl, I did half of the blocks as Suspender Sam "cats".
I used 30's reproduction fabrics for the clothes, and embroidered whiskers and hatbands after hand-appliqueing each cat to its background block. I'd not done hand-applique before, and was quite pleased with the way the blocks turned out!
The quilt was sandwiched with "Warm & Natural" batting and birthed (to avoid having to bind it!) and then hand-quilted using yellow thread.
Emily Jane arrived on 30th December 2000 and loves her quilt!
