A while ago, as a challenge to myself (to prove that I could do it!) I entered a challenge run by Sunflower Fabrics of Bedford, UK. The brief was simple - purchase a pack of eight pieces of material (fat eights), adding one more colour only and a backing, and using all or some of the material, produce a quilt inspired by a greetings card which was also included. This was a photograph of a kitchen from a farmhouse, with an Aga cooker, an old wooden table and chair, and a cute little lamb on the floor looking worried - could it see a jar of mint jelly I wonder? I added a second yellow with a pale orange leafy design on it to be used as background for the houses and in the border. I also had to purchase an additional length of the red, as I wanted the border to be single strips of yellow, black and red (I already had loads of the black from my tumbling blocks quilt). And the result of the competition? I came 4th (out of five) but the moral of this story is... ... if you don't try at all you don't succeed!
