I finally finished my biggest quilt to date, a double bed sized cat quilt for my Mum & Dad. It should have been a present for their 50th Wedding Anniversary, but the date was upon me a bit too quick, so I gave it to them for Christmas instead. Mind you, I was still outline- quilting each cat during Christmas Eve!They absolutely love it, and so did their cat Moppet, on the photo below you can see her next to a printed photograph of her incorporated into the quilt. I scanned a picture of Moppet onto my PC, then printed it onto a piece of computer printer paper (from QuiltDirect) and then stitched it into place - as you can see Moppet liked her picture!
The pattern is made using The Angler (tm), purchased from UK's Patchwork & Quilting magazine, and an Angler pattern. There are 28 cats, made from 14 different prints, with one substituted for the photograph. Fabrics came mainly from Sunflower Fabrics and The Contented Cat, the wadding is Dream Wadding, and the backing is a plain cream cotton.
A real learning curve, this quilt, but well worth the effort when I saw the look on Mum & Dads faces on Christmas Day... my eternal thanks must go to Margaret at Sunflower Fabrics for her help and encouragement when I had to buy a new sewing machine just to be able to 'quilt the quilt', and for her patience in showing me how to 'quilt the quilt'!
***** SAD NEWS ***** Sadly, Moppet went to the Great Hunting Ground in the Sky on 2nd August 1999, at the grand age of 17 and a half years. Goodbye Moppy, you will be sadly missed...***** ***** ***** *****
